THE two-day Brunei Darussalam Children’s Forum 2017 officially ended yesterday with a closing ceremony at the Theatre Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
The event was attended by guest of honour YB Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, a Legislative Council member.
Also present were Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil; Acting Director of Community Development Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Tahir; and senior officers from the Community Development Department (JAPEM).
The event began with a Doa Selamat led by Haji Hanafiah bin Haji Mahmud, the Imam of Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque.
This was followed by a Children’s Voice Session presentation by four students: Jerick Yap Raymundo, Year 9 student from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College; Alya Insyirah binti Syame, Year 9 student from Raja Isteri Girls High School; Abdul Hakim Afiq bin Abdullah, Year 10 student from Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College; and Siti Jalilah binti Abdullah, a Year 10 student with special needs from Menglait Secondary School.
Fifty Years 9 and 10 students from government and private secondary schools took part in the forum, including students with special needs.
During the forum, students were divided into three groups and had the opportunity to listen to parallel sessions delivered by three invited facilitators: ‘Matlamat Pendidikan’ by Haji Ali Yusri bin Haji Abdul Ghafor, Acting Head of the Special Educa-tion Unit, Ministry of Education; ‘Maklumat Melalui Media Sosial’ by Hasdina binti Juini, Assistant Manager of the Content Regulation Section of the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI); and ‘Bimbingan Ibu Bapa atau Penjaga’ Ustaz Khairul Nazif bin Haji Damit, an assistant lecturer from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali.
Students also had the opportunity to discuss, interact and exchange views with the facilitators and Children’s Voice presenters during the event.
