MEMBERS of the public recently came together to take part in the Brunei Darussalam National Canoe Association (BNCA) cleaning campaign at Sungai Kedayan in Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas in an effort to raise public awareness on maintaining a clean environment.
Led by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji
Bakar, the President of BNCA, his spouse and participants rode on canoes and boats combing the river to collect rubbish.
Also taking part were members of various government agencies.
Dozens of bags were filled with rubbish which included plastic bottles, plastics and others.
As members of the public and citizens of the country, Major (Rtd) Mohd Talip bin Haji Mohd Tahir, the Secretary General of the association, highlighted that “it is our responsibility to help maintain the cleanliness of public areas as well as rivers, because rubbish is not only an eyesore but (it) also can harm the natural environment”.
