THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday at the Officers’ Mess, Bolkiah Garrison, opening the way for further collaboration in the training of the ministry’s officers.
The MoU is part of MinDef’s wider efforts to elevate the quality of its officers.
Witnessing the signing as guest of honour was Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Also present were senior officers of MinDef and IBTE.
In his speech at the signing ceremony, Deputy Commandant of the Training Institute RBAF, 436 Lt Col Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof described the signing as a milestone for both parties.
Revealing the scope of the cooperation, he said, “The MoU that we are signing today formularises the collaboration between our two institutions, a collaboration that already began a long time ago and has proceeded productively.
“The MoU signed today will provide more avenues and opportunities for collaboration in the development of skills for trainers, trainees and students.”
The MoU, he added, will commit both institutions to work more closely toward their common goals of recognition and accreditation of both institutions’ academic programmes.
Through the MoU, he said, “Both IBTE and RBAF trainers will collaborate in terms of the transfer of knowledge, where IBTE and RBAF will explore and exchange academic knowledge in areas of mutual interest, cultivate teamwork and understanding between both ministries, and work to elevate the reputations of both training institutions in terms of the quality of training.”
Signing on behalf of MinDef was the Commandant of the RBAF Training Institute, Colonel Khairul Hamed bin Haji Lampoh, while IBTE was represented by Dr Chin Wei Keh, Director and Chief Executive Officer of IBTE. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology and Development) at the MinDef Captain (Rtd) Haji Mohammad Amirul Shahnoel bin Haji Mohammad Noeh; and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee.
