THE SMS Brunei Prihatin Project for the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) marks its 12th year since its introduction in 2006.
The DANA Secretariat has handled the project successfully, with assistance from government and private sector agencies.
DANA Chief Executive Office Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny highlighted this yesterday during the launch of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA 2017-2018, which is set to run for 65 days from November 28, 2017 to January 31, 2018.
Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman launched the event in his capacity as Chairman of the DANA Board of Trustees. The ceremony was held at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.
The minister also launched the Receive an S-M-S Promo in the form of a compact disc from Syarikat Lailatul Shazana’s Production House. The promotion will be broadcast through radio and television as well as across cinema outlets.
The event also saw the presentation of 3,800 coupons for the purchase of school stationeries for DANA orphans for the 2018 academic year. Each orphan registered under the DANA Secretariat will receive a $70 coupon. In all, $266,000 in coupons was handed out.
The coupons were handed over to Temburong District Officer Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, Acting Tutong District Officer Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, Acting Belait District Officer Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim, and Brunei-Muara District Office representative Awangku Hafiz bin Pengiran Damit.
The coupons can be used at 32 bookstores across all four districts.
The project aims primarily to look out for the welfare of orphans in the country. It also serves as a platform to channel public contributions towards orphans.
Two telecommunication companies have been appointed for the project – DST and Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd.
DST and Progresif Cellular subscribers can make their contribution by keying in the amount of donation (DANA1 for $1, DANA5 for $5, DANA10 for $10, DANA15 for $15 or DANA20 for $20) and sending it to 38111.
At the event, DANA also received a $3,820 donation from the Former Brunei-Singapore (Student Intake 1965 – 1986) Association, which was presented by Haji Abdul Hakim bin Haji Mohd Yassin to the minister, who received it on behalf of DANA.
