LOCAL team Wisdom Lawn Bowling Club (WBC) overwhelmed Labuan Sports, Culture and Welfare Club (KSKK PL) 12-6 to claim the President’s Cup Lawn Bowling trophy, scoring six wins from nine multi-disciplinary games.
On the first day, WBC earned six points from three wins from four games while on the last day, WBC had three wins from five disciplines as well as six points for a total of 12 points. KSKK PL collected six points from three wins.
This victory was made possible as a result of the team’s hard work by undergoing intensive training over the last few weeks, WBC President Haji Johari Achee said. The victory was more sweeter for the country as it coincided with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
It has always been WBC’s aim to elevate Brunei’s name in any tournament in the country and abroad, the president stated. After three championship tournaments in Labuan, the 4th President’s Cup Lawn Bowling Championship and Under 25 Youth Cup will be held in Brunei in 2018.
The WBC were led by its president Haji Johari Achee, while KSKK PL were headed by Datuk Rozman bin Datuk Haji Isli, a member of the Labuan Federal Territory Parliament.
Meanwhile, defending champion Labuan retained their second successive hold of the Under 25 Youth Cup after a stunning win with 12 points to nil against WBC.
