A STEADY stream of visitors flocking to taste the ever-popular Musang King durians on sale at the Gempak Bonus 2017 Expo at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium area.

A number of vendors have set up stalls at the event selling the beloved durian variety.

According to a stall owner and proprietor, Ariffin bin Tuah, the durians have been brought in on a daily basis by air from Malaysia since the first day of the expo, and will be supplied via the same method until December 30.

An average of 300 to 400 kilogrammes of durians are flown in to the Sultanate daily for the event. The durians are from Pahang and the response from the locals has been overwhelming.

“Profit is good especially with public servants receiving their annual bonus, December 26,” said Ariffin.

Asked whether there will be an all-you-can-eat durian event, he said, “There is no such plan at the moment as the cost of durians fluctuates and also due to space constraints in the area.

For the Musang King, it comes directly from Malaysia, while the Durian Kahwin are supplied by middlemen from Sarawak.”

The Musang King durians cost around $26 per kilogramme while the Durian Kahwin are priced at around $6 per kilogramme.

Gempak Bonus 2017 Expo is organised by StarBugs Event Management and supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO).
