A CONSTRUCTION company was yesterday slapped with a $200 fine by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department for dumping waste material at a public area beside a commercial building at Batu Satu.
The construction waste was found at a parking lot beside the gas cylinder storage area of the commercial building, which could be dangerous to the public, according to the department. The construction company was given seven days to settle the fine.
Under Chapter 30 Section 12 of the Minor Offences Act, anyone or company found guilty of disposing rubbish in public places will be handed a compound fine not exceeding $500.
Failing to settle this, the matter will be forwarded to the courts and a further $1,000 fine will be levied for a first-time offence. A fine of $3,000 and jail term not exceeding three months will be handed for subsequent offences.
