RUSH hour traffic was back yesterday, as students returned to school for the new academic term of 2018, following a four-week vacation.
Statistics from the Ministry of Education show 25,345 students entering government primary schools and 29,921 in government secondary schools this year, bringing the total to 55,266 students in government educational institutions nationwide.
At the same time, 28,265 students have registered in private primary and secondary schools across Brunei.
While it is common to see toddlers beginning nursery school or kindergarten with tears, their older peers look forward to the new term with a mixture of nerves and excitement.
Particularly anxious are the Year 6 students who will be sitting for a major exam this year.
Among them are Siti Batrysia, Mohd Shafiezul Fadhli and Muhd Habrillah, who are glad to be with their friends again, but know that they have to work hard to gain good results for their Primary School Assessment (PSR) exam in October-November.
Meanwhile, teachers had their hands full yesterday, with many working diligently on classroom plans and preparing students for the new school year.
