THE Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation (BDFF) will organise the 3rd Brunei Open Fencing Championship 2018 in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, from January 9-14 at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Sports Complex in Berakas.
This was revealed during a press conference chaired by Huzaimi Kassim, Technical Director of BDFF and Coach Rocky Poerawinata, National Fencing Coach yesterday at the Indoor Stadium.
More than 80 participants are expected to join the tournament. Managers’ meeting, referee’s meeting and weapons check will be held January 9. Individual events for the tournament will be held from January 10-12, while team events from January 13-14. Competitors from Malaysia, Indonesia and China are expected to attend the championship.
Under-14 and under-8 exhibition matches will be held on January 14 to expose young fencers in a competitive atmosphere.
Coach Rocky commented that it is also an opportunity for the athletes to compete at a national level.
“Not all athletes have the chance to compete outside Brunei, so we bring the competition to Brunei. It is also a good opportunity to create awareness on fencing in the country,” the coach said.
