BRUNEI’S very own Nasi Katok has turned out to be a hit among Arabs in the ‘Oman Winter Souq As Sabt’ food festival currently being held at The Wave in Al Mouj, Muscat, Oman.

“Nasi Katok with anchovies is one of our hottest-selling items, followed closely by Nasi Katok with chicken. Omanis and Westerners who used to reside in Brunei Darussalam are craving for this Brunei dish. That’s the real power of our dish,” said Mohd Afiq, one of the Bruneian vendors participating in the festival.

Bruneian vendors at the event comprised government officers, staff and students working and studying in Oman.

“It costs 1.5 Omani Rials per pack (equiva-lent to B$5). There is not much profit left over (from each pack sold) due to the higher cost of the ingredients shipped from Brunei. Nevertheless, we expect more Nasi Katok to be sold next week,” Mohd Afiq said.

Other Bruneian dishes on the menu included Nasi Sambal (anchovies and egg), Soto Brunei, Kuih Mor (a sweet flour delicacy), and Kek Lapis (multi-layered cake).
