THE Richard Mille Brunei Championships, sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour (ADT) organised in conjunction with the 34th Brunei Darussalam National Day celebration will offer a prize purse of US$60,000 and will run from the March 7-10. This was revealed during a press conference was held at the Empire Hotel, Golf and Country Club yesterday afternoon.
This professional golf event will feature several top Brunei amateur players. Some of local players are the four young players who representedBrunei in the most recent Southeast Asian (SEA) Games – Mohammed Qawiem Fakhri bin Haji Aslimon, Mohammad Qazzri Fakhri bin Haji Aslimon, Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Alli and Lai Suan Loong.
Two professional players joining the tournament are Haji Mohd Faiz bin Haji Damit and Pengiran Wirahadikusuma bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Salleh.
Haji Mohd Faiz said he did not join any tournaments in 2017 but had been practising since November 2017. “I’ve been practising at The Empire Hotel, Golf and Country Club and are planning to play in Bangkok for 10 days, followed by a series of tournaments in Kuala Lumpur, Bangladesh and other states in Malaysia as preparation, not only for the Brunei Championships but also for the whole year.
“My target is to get as many points as I can. I’ve been resting for quite some time.
“I hope to perform the best I can at the championships,” he said with a smile.
The promoter of the event is SPS Innovative Enterprise and the title sponsor is Brunei Heidlberg Cement. Royal Brunei Airlines is the tournament’s official airline.
