A COMPANY was slapped with a $200 fine yesterday by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department for dumping waste materials at a public area near a building in Batu Satu.
The company was given seven days to settle the fine.
Under Chapter 30 Section 12 of the Minor Offences Act, anyone or company found guilty of disposing rubbish in public places will be handed a compound fine not exceeding $500.
Failing to settle this, the matter will be forwarded to the courts and a further $1,000 fine will be levied against the culprit if he/she/the company is a first-time offender. A fine of $3,000 and jail term not exceeding three months will be handed for subsequent offences.
The Law Enforcement Unit regularly conducts operations to ensure that individuals and businesses comply with the rules and regulations under the Minor Offences Act.
