A TOTAL of about 678 government officials and staff, uniformed personnel and members of the private sector were awarded with state honorary medals for their meritorious services to the country in a ceremony held at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.
By command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, represented the monarchy in conferring the medals.
Yesterday’s ceremony began with the presentation of the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), or the Meritorious Service Medal, to 68 recipients (49 men and 19 women) of which 33 are from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and 35 from the Ministry of Defence.
The Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB), or Excellent Service Medal, was awarded to 610 officials, comprising 316 men and 294 women, from PMO as well as Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
A Doa Selamat to bless the ceremony was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
Present at the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, members of councils, Cabinet Ministers, deputy ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan and Pehin-Pehin Manteri.
Also witnessing the event were ambassadors, high commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of departments, mukim penghulus and village heads.
