THE Consumer Fair (CF20) strives to provide a platform for local talents while assisting youth-driven industries to grow and develop.

This was highlighted by Jackson Ting, the Managing Director of D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, in his welcoming address yesterday during the official launching of the CF20 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

He said the fair was inspired by current consumer trends for convenience, such as shopping for a wide range of products while enjoying a line-up of family-friendly activities under one roof.

“The Consumer Fair is not only a convenient consumer-driven event, but also a community-enriching medium for the Sultanate – a community which adheres to the notion of consistently giving back to the society by means of collecting donations for different non-government organisations (NGOs) at every instalment,” he said.

The 20th instalment of the Consumer Fair series was officially launched by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

A presentation of awards was then held for long-term exhibitors, including Entrek (B) Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Jollibee franchise in Brunei Darussalam which has been participating since the very first Consumer Fair in 2008.

Awards were also presented to NBT Brunei Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Aliaa Sdn Bhd, Oregon Systems, Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia, Kingston Beverage & Creamery Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, which have been active participants since 2010.

With the CF20 theme centred on ‘Remembering the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Envisioning the Future’, the public is invited for a trip down memory lane and relive their childhood at the Blue Zone activity area.

There is also a Neon Gallery exhibition known as ‘After Glow’, located at Sepakat 4, where several local mural artists have been brought in to create unique works related to the main theme of the event.

To mark the very first collaboration between the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia and D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, the Missing Endangered Campaign will make its final pit-stop at the 20th Consumer Fair, with prizes to be awarded to the ‘Wildlife Heroes’ who successfully completed the scavenger hunt which began last October.

Furthermore, 2,000 mini ceramic elephant figurines, all hand-painted by 18 collaborating schools across the country, will be available for purchase at the main entrance of the ICC.

CF20 will run from 10am to 10pm until January 28, except on Friday, where it will be temporarily closed for Friday prayer between noon to 2pm. Shuttle buses will be provided at the Indoor Stadium for the exhibitors and the public.
