YEAR 7 students of Belait Arabic School in Belait District yesterday attended a nationalism briefing entitled ‘Our Sultan, Appreciating the National Flag and National Anthem,’ organised by the Information Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (Belait District branch).
Head of Information at the Belait District branch Mohammad Hisyam bin Idris delivered the briefing to 69 students at the school’s multipurpose hall.
The session aims to instil a sense of patriotism within students, bringing them closer to their Bruneian culture, history and identity.
The students were shown the proper method to hoist the national flag, and briefed on the history of the national flag and national anthem, before being quizzed. Prizes were presented to students who had answered the questions correctly.
Belait Arabic School Headmistress Ustazah Hajah Noramalina binti Haji Mohd Ali said, “Through the briefing, the students were able to not only acquire knowledge on the history of our national flag and anthem, but also gain a sense of appreciation for the national flag and anthem as part of their culture and identity as Bruneians.”
The headmistress expressed hope that the students will be able to take the knowledge gained and share it with their friends and families, as well as expand their knowledge on the subject themselves.
