A SIGNING ceremony for the placement of nine former inmates as mosque staff or ‘Marbut’ at selected mosques and suraus nationwide under the Peer Supervision Programme was held yesterday.
It was a follow up to an intensive course for the mosque staff sponsored by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and coordinated by the Prisons Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Mosque Affairs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The former inmates will carry out their duties at mosques and will be continuously monitored by the Counselling and Supervision Services of the Prisons Department.
The programme will allow the former inmates to be integrated back in society and keep them away from undesirable activities that could drag them back to prison again.
Present as guest of honour was Ustaz Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of Mosque Affairs. Also in attendance were Haji Ismail bin Haji Murat, Acting Director of Prisons; Haji Sham bin Haji Amin, Acting Assistant Director of Mosque Affairs and senior government officers.
