Medal recipients express gratitude for recognition

RECIPIENTS of the state honorary medals yesterday said the recognition will not only encourage them to strive harder in carrying out roles and responsibilities to the government and the country, but also serves as an inspiration for their friends and colleagues.

Following the conclusion of the final day of the Investiture Ceremony that saw some 667 individuals from the public and private sectors conferred with state honorary medals from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, recipients expressed their gratitude for the recognition of the hard work they put in for so many years.

Among the elated recipients yesterday were a group of education officers from the Ministry of Education (MoE) who have served the country as teachers for over 15 years.

First time medal recipient Corina Tan Chui Peng, a teacher from Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMPJNPHAB) who received the Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB) or the Excellent Service Medal, said she feels grateful and honoured to be recognised for her work.

“This gives us really great motivation. We will try to work our very best to serve the school and also our country for many years to come,” she said while her fellow teachers Low Leng Leng from Berakas Secondary School and Vikki Shim Shan Chee from SMPJNPHAB also shared the same sentiment.

They also advised young teachers out there to put in their full commitment and strive harder to achieve such recognition, while also thanking His Majesty and also the MoE and their respective schools for the valuable recognition.

Also a first time medal recipient serving the public sector for over 14 years, PIKB recipient Salimah binti Haji Saim, an education officer at Politeknik Brunei who also served other ministries and also the private sector in the past, said the award serves as a morale booster for her, and will help her to strive better and harder in her job and also increase her contributions to the government and the country.

“I am truly grateful for this, and thank you to His Majesty for such a valuable recognition for all the hard work I put in after all these years,” she said.

Another PIKB recipient, Hajah Sa’adiah binti Haji Abang Morshidi who has been serving the Public Works Department in Kuala Belait, Ministry of Development since 1989 expressed her gratitude for the conferment of the honorary medal and said this will motivate her to carry out her duties more diligently and boost her unwavering loyalty to her country.

Also receiving the PIKB medals yesterday were a group of male nurses from the Department of Nursing Services, Ministry of Health (MoH).

Speaking on behalf of the group, Yahya bin Haji Pungut said such recognition from His Majesty drives them to intensify their efforts and commitment in their duties, and will go a long way in uplifting the image of their jobs and infusing a positive attitude in the work place to benefit their colleagues.

“We are also very grateful for the conferment and recognition from His Majesty, the MoH and our colleagues. We hope this will inspire our colleagues to work extra hard with full diligence and trust so they can also receive the same recognition,” he added.
