Arabic Language teachers urged to double efforts

ARABIC teachers must double their efforts to improve themselves in Arabic Language skills; the science of Arabic Language; knowledge of teaching the Arabic Language and its implementation in the classroom.

This was stated by Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin bin Abang Haji Taha, Acting Deputy Ra’es at Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) at the launch of the 2nd Lughah Al-Mu’allim workshop at the university yesterday.

The guest of honour, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, the Deputy State Mufti, launched the workshop for 20 teachers in Arabic schools under the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from Dr Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili, Director of Language Centre at KUPU SB, in his capacity as the chairman of the workshop.

Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin, in his speech titled ‘Keperluan Guru Terhadap Bahasa Arab Pada Sudut Pengetahuan & Pengajaran’, said, “Teachers should first love the Arabic Language and love teaching it because it is important to instil the interest in Arabic learning among students to improve the quality of the Zikir Nation of Brunei Darussalam.”

“Teachers should turn challenges into opportunities of contributing toward Arabic teaching,” he added. “Teachers should always increase their Arabic vocabulary and teaching knowledge.”

He also shared tips to reduce the awkward feeling when speaking Arabic with other Malays, which can be done systematically.

The 10-week programme will be held every Wednesday from 2pm to 4.30pm until April 25. The programme aims to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah at the 6th KUPU SB Convocation Ceremony to improve quality of mastering the Arabic Language among students.

The workshop seeks to enhance the skills of the participants in teaching the language and produce students skilled in listening, reading, writing and speaking the Arabic Language.
