THE Ministry of Health launched the Healthy Mukim Programme at the Pengkalan Batu Health Centre yesterday, in a joint collaboration with the mukim and village consultative councils (MPMK) of Pengkalan Batu.
Officiating the launch was Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Jaafar, the Minister of Health; along with his spouse, Datin Dr Noraslinah binti Haji Ramlee.
The programme seeks to promote more awareness in the local community on health issues, while encouraging daily physical activities and avoiding high-risk practices such as smoking.
The launching began with a speech by YB Haji Mohimin bin Haji Johari @ Jahari, a member of the Legislative Council, explaining the aims of the programme to promote healthy living among the community.
Later, following a group aerobics session, the minister flagged off a 20km cycling tour, and then participated in a three-kilometre walkathon.
The event also featured check-ups, a healthy cooking competition, an exhibition and local products from MPMK Pengkalan Batu.
A briefing on healthy diets was also held. Prizes were presented to the competition winners by the Minister of Health.
