CHUNG Ching Middle School in Kuala Belait yesterday received 89 food hampers produced by former trainees of the Youth Development Centre (PPB) in a handover ceremony at the Knowledge Hub in Anggerek Desa.
Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait Chairman Lau Shiew Yuen accepted the hampers from Koperasi Pusat Pembangunan Belia (KOPBB) Deputy Chairman Saiful Rizal bin Haji Ariffin.
Captain (Rtd) Zailan bin Pehin Dato Mohd Don, Advisor to the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brunei Darussalam (NCCIBD) and the Principal Mentor of the Cottage and Youth Initiative Programme (CYiP), said that the former trainees are currently marketing their products at Cube Junction, an e-Dagang Brunei platform.
He also expressed hope the handover would provide more public exposure to locally-produced goods with a quality that meets international standards.
Lau Shiew Yuen said, “I was so impressed with the taste of these young entrepreneurs’ food items, that I ordered more for my colleagues to enjoy.
“These youths have demonstrated their commitment and spirit, and I believe that we should support them.”
Lau Shiew Yuen also suggested that a strategic venue with a steady flow of consumer traffic be allocated for the sale of local goods, while emphasising the importance of networking for aspiring entrepreneurs.
“I believe that locally made goods can compete with those from neighbouring countries, since they have quality and improved packaging,” he said.
