UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) – through its Academic Affairs Division of the Assistant Vice Chancellor Office – yesterday held its Discovery Year showcase, which continues again today.
The showcase aims to provide undergraduates and their parents a better understanding of the Discovery Year programme with the help of exhibitions and direct interaction with students who have undergone the programme – either domestically or abroad.
The four Discovery Year activities are Incubation, Community Outreach Programme, Study Abroad Programme and Internship. Visitors also interacted with UBD stakeholders locally and from overseas.
The annual programme, in its second year running, sees the participation of several UBD divisions. The UBD GenNEXT programme aims to produce ‘Future Ready’ graduates.
The GenNEXT curriculum is a student-centric approach to education and lays the foundation for life-long learning.
It equips students with essential life skills and soft skills – namely, critical thinking, reasoning, communication, quantitative analysis with both a national and global perspective.
Three principles embedded in all the GenNEXT modules are Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Innovation; and Environmental Awareness.
The GenNEXT curriculum offers design-centric experiential learning through the Discovery Year programme during a student’s third year candidature.
Under the Discovery Year programme, students have a choice of one or a mix of the four choices: study abroad programme, internship, incubation project and community outreach programme.
The options provided within the Discovery Year programme encourage students to be independent, proactive and courageous in their pursuit of knowledge and skills because these are relevant in shaping their future career pathways.
