HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam takes a keen interest in the progress of the country’s education system as education is foremost in His Majesty’s heart.
The ruler toured two schools in Mukim Telisai starting with the Tutong Sixth Form Centre (PTET) and Tumpuan Telisai Primary School, Tutong Cluster 5.
During his visit to PTET, the ruler talked to students and teachers, listening to their aspirations and concerns and reminded the students of the importance of education in building the future of the nation.
His Majesty, keen on learning more about the sixth form centre’s progress and developments, toured its facilities and viewed exhibitions showcasing the school’s latest projects and achievements.
Opened in 2012, PTET has about 350 students and over 60 teachers and staff. The centre’s students are from the nearby mukims which include Telisai, Pekan Tutong, Tanjong Maya, Kiudang, Keriam, Ukong, Lamunin and Rambai as well as nearby villages in the district.
His Majesty next stopped by Tumpuan Telisai Primary School, where the ruler visited classes and mingled with the students and teachers, talking specifically with a few of them.
The monarch who observed the various activities carried out by the students in each of the classrooms, also went on to tour the school’s canteen, ICT laboratory and library.
The primary school, which opened its doors to students around 1940, was last visited by His Majesty in 1992, with this being the monarch’s second visit. The school at present has 213 students and 36 teachers and staff.
The visits to the schools further highlight His Majesty’s concern and care towards the education of his country’s citizens – most clearly seen in His Majesty’s Government providing free education for all citizens of Brunei.
