TWO participants of the Asnaf Zakat Empowerment Programme (PROPAZ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday, to undergo training at the Baitulmal Skills Institute of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (IKB MAIWP) in Malaysia.
Muhd Nur Hazwan Syafiee bin Razimi, 21, will undertake a building construction technology course, while Mohd Zulhilmi bin Ajak, 25, will take the food preparation and services course, at the institute.
The signing of the MoU was witnessed by Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop, the Acting Secretary of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
The training was made possible from the 42nd Senior Officials Meeting within the ambit of MABIMS (Meeting of Religious Ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore), which took place at Yogyakarta on October 25-28, 2017.
Among the discussions at the meeting were measures on how to elevate the lives of impoverished Muslims within the region.
As a consequence from the meeting, the Malaysian Government, through IKB MAIWP, is offering impoverished Muslims from Brunei Darussalam the opportunity to undergo skills training.
The course will last 12 months, with expenses borne by the host country, including transport, accommodation, food and monetary allowances.
Each of the participants also received $500 from the Asnaf Zakat fund from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with an additional RM1,000 each, from an anonymous donor.
Through its PROPAZ programme, MUIB is continuously seeking for ways to mentor underprivileged communities.
