A FINAL, full-dress rehearsal was carried out at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday, to ensure the smooth running of the 34th National Day celebrations tomorrow.
Thousands of participants gathered at the field to put on their best performances in a display of patriotism, despite the bright heat from the morning sun.
On hand to witness the displays was Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Following the rehearsal, the minister had some words of encouragement for the participants, while urging them to do their best on the actual day, in the presence of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and other members of the royal family.
The minister also thanked the participants for all their hard work and their vibrant performances, which he said demonstrated their integrity and spirit of mutual cooperation that should be followed through to the actual 34th National Day celebrations.
Under this year’s theme ‘Accomplishing the National Vision’ (Menjayakan Wawasan Negara), 23,000 participants from 138 teams will join the march-past, which is divided into the following clusters: National Security, Bestari Community, Civil Service, Socio-Economy, Post-Secondary Education, Secondary Education, Private Education, Mosque Takmir Groups, Professional Organisations, Youth Movements, Women’s Associations, General Associations and Outstanding Teams.
