THE Brunei-China Friendship Association hosted a Chinese New Year (CNY) open house at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club yesterday.
The President of the Brunei-China Friendship Association, Dr Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman along with executive committee members of the association welcomed the guests upon arrival.
Present at the event were Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Communications; Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, the President of Alliance Française de Brunei; Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, former Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Dr Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, the President of National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam (NCCI); and prominent figures in the local Chinese and Malay community.
The event aimed to foster closer ties among its members and guests from the private and public sectors.
“The association promotes closer ties between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China. The association also promotes trade, culture, education, mutual understanding, businesses and more between both countries,” he said. “Through exchanges as well as forums in various areas in China, we are focussing on promoting Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), to Chinese and other foreign investors to gain a better understanding about Brunei and its people.”
