THE World Martial Arts Union (WoMAU) recently recognised the Brunei-Korean Association of Friendship (BKAF) as its member, in recognition for its positive and pro-active contributions in upholding the union’s objectives.
The BKAF in a press statement said it is very proud receive the recognition and accolade from WoMAU, which is official partner of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with a Consultative Status.
The recognition was also in honour of the active contributions made by BKAF’s current President, Dr Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib who is a well-known Martial Arts expert in the art of Karate-do, Taekwondo, Judo and traditional Malay Pencak Silat, has regularly represented BKAF in the WoMau Annual General Meeting and has attended workshops conducted by the WoMau in promoting exchange of knowledge and expertise and also demonstrations of Martial Arts.
He also regularly attends the Martial Arts International Showcase in Cheongju, South Korea, a WoMAU event.
In the past, Dr Haji Kamaruddin has represented Brunei in Karate and Judo competitions overseas.
Dr Haji Kamaruddin is also the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, the Honourable Chairman of Brunei-China Friendship Association, President of Brunei Rugby Football Union and the is also a member of DARe’s (Darusssalam Enterprise) Board of Directors.
Founded in 2002, WoMAU aims to promote exchange and cooperation between martial arts organisations, promotion and conservation of each member country’s traditional martial arts, research and study of martial arts and contribution positively to the world peace.
