IBTE Bedagang’s launch at Yayasan complex

THE Year 1 HNTec students of the IBTE Business Campus put their business ideas to the test and got the opportunity to practise what they learnt at the IBTE Bedagang 2016, currently being held at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, following its launching ceremony yesterday.

The Director of Technical Education/Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Dr Chin Wei Keh, was the event’s guest of honour.

Organised by the Year 1 HNTec students themselves with the theme ‘Developing Youth Entrepreneurs’, among its objectives are to provide the participants with an authentic learning approach through the entrepreneurship module, to establish a platform to assess the students based on practical work, as well as to create more awareness and generate interest in self-employment.

In addition to a variety of planned activities, there are a total of 60 booths selling food and non-food items, with 25 of them open to the public and not run by students. The IBTE Bedagang event will operate from 9am to 4pm today.

In his speech at the launch, the Principal of IBTE Central – Dr Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, remarked, “The School of Business has actively involved students in entrepreneurship activities as the best way to learn business-related modules.

“In these modules, students are required to work in teams to organise an event where they will assess collectively the entire process from its initial stage of planning until the event’s implementation.

“The government has encouraged youths to be more pro-active in diversifying the economy, by venturing into non-oil-and-gas sectors such as business,” he added, which is also the educational institution’s intention.

IBTE further expressed utmost appreciation to Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex for providing the students a strategic venue to implement what they have been taught, and experience an authentic business setting.

As part of the institution’s social responsibility, three per cent of the IBTE Bedagang sales will be donated to Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans.
