THE Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD) held its annual World Thinking Day celebration yesterday at its headquarters in Kampong Anggerek Desa.
Held to commemorate World Thinking Day 2018, the event also provided the PPPBD the opportunity to exhibit its development and activities, showcase the various skills and abilities of PPPBD members, and improve the camaraderie among its members.
Present to officiate the event was a member of the Legislative Council, YB Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman.
Among the activities held during the day was the launching of ‘Teratak Jari Hijau’, the second phase of farming activities carried out at the gardening areas located on the sides of the association’s headquarters. The second phase involved the making of products using plants and fruits planted from the garden.
Examples of these activities include the cooking of these plants and fruits, handicraft making and charity sales organised by PPPBD members comprising young leaders, ranger girl guides, girl guides and brownies from various primary and secondary schools, colleges and sixth form centres throughout the country.
World Thinking Day, formerly Thinking Day, is celebrated annually on February 22 by all girl guides and girl scouts, marking the birthday of Girl Guides cofounders Lord Baden-Powell and Lady Olave Baden-Powell.
It is also celebrated by scout and guide organisations and some boy-oriented associations around the world. It is a day when scouts association members think about their “sisters” and “brothers” throughout the world, and the meaning of guiding and its global impact.
Others present at the event included Datin Paduka Hajah Zaharah binti Haji Idris and Datin Paduka Hajah Jusnani binti Haji Lawie, Life Vice Presidents of the PPPBD; Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim, Chief Commissioner of the PPPBD; and other senior ranking members of the PPPBD.
