Royalty grace swimming meet at ISB

HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman yesterday graced the 3rd Brunei Open & Masters (SC) Swimming Championships at the International School Brunei (ISB) Swimming Pool.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim competed in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle event while Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah took part in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke events.

Also present was Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim recorded a new personal best in the 50m backstroke with a revised time of 47.19s, bettering his seed time of 48.13s.

Meanwhile, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah sets new age group records in the 50m freestyle with a time of 51.55s, revising her old time of 58.50s and the 50m backstroke with a time of 55.41s.

Brunei national junior swimmer Nur Haziq Samil broke his own national record of 30.48s in the 50m backstroke which he sets at the ISB Sprints & Masters Championships last year with a revised time of 30.02s.

Harris Zainal of ISB Hammerheads also joined in the record books after setting a new age group record for eight year with a time of 1:00.27s, eclipsing his old time of 1:09.38s.

Breanna Lee Le Er of Jerudong Swimming Club broke the age group record for 11 year for girls with a new time of 33.71s, eclipsing the previous record of 38.54s while Zeke Chan broke an age group record for 11 year for boys with a time of 1:19.21s beating the old mark of 1:37.98s.

Zeke, who swam under the banner of Royal Brunei Recreation Club, also broke a new age group record in the 50m backstroke with a time of 35.88s, bettering his old time of 38.30s.

Nur Haziq Samil enjoyed another solid performance in the national scene taking home the gold medal in both the 400m Individual Medley and the 50m backstroke.

Organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA), the 3rd Brunei Open and Masters Swimming Championship is the second swimming event of the calendar year.
