Brunei, New Zealand co-chair conference for ADMM-Plus military exercise

BRUNEI Darussalam and New Zealand co-chaired the Final Planning Conference (FPC) of ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Group (EWG) Maritime Security (MS) Field Training Exercise (FTX), Exercise Mahi Tangaroa ‘16’ in Auckland, New Zealand from May 23-26.

The FPC EWG Co-Chairs were Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Lieutenant Colonel (L) Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaily @ Suhaili, and the Director Asia, Ministry of Defence New Zealand, Mike Thompson.

The aim of Exercise Mahi Tangaroa ‘16’ is to promote cooperation and inter-operability, as well as information sharing among the ADMM-Plus member countries in addressing global common non-traditional Maritime Security threats.

The exercise is expected to take place from November 13-17, followed by an International Naval Review, to commemorate Royal New Zealand Navy’s 75th Anniversary.

The conference was officially opened by Captain David McEwan, Captain Fleet Operational Readiness, and closed by the Maritime Component Commander, Commodore Jim Gilmore.

Exercise Mahi Tangaroa ‘16’ is expected to incorporate the ADMM-Plus FTX Standard Operating Procedures and the document of Code of Unplanned Encounters at Sea.
