THE re-launching of the ‘Temburong Holiday Package’ is set to give the district a new lease on life.

The premium package was introduced in September 2016 and was popular among local and foreign tourists.

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, YB Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong said this when responding to YB Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu, a Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Bokok.

The latter was asking about plans by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) to attract more tourists to visit Brunei, especially to Temburong District.

The minister said the MPRT, through the Tourism Development Department, will continuously increase its initiatives by formulating programmes and packages.

He added that there are numerous attractive and exciting options in Brunei for tourists to choose from namely, cultural, eco-tourism and adventure.

Since 2016, a number of tour operators in the country offered these options; and based on observations, they managed to attract a good number of tourists to Temburong District.

In 2015, a total of 1,304 tourists or 8.6 per cent of Brunei’s arrivals visited Temburong while in 2016, it was 1,416, he said.

The minister added that the re-launching of the package will be enhanced.

“More attractive choices and prices will be included such as a ‘two-day-one-night package’, a ‘day trip’ and a ‘night jungle trek’,” he said, adding that the promotion will begin next month.

Other than the ‘Temburong Holiday Package’, the ministry will develop the ‘Bangar Walking Trail’.

The project will highlight interesting and historical places around Pekan Bangar by providing maps to tourists and placing signboards at strategic spots.

Apart from that, the Tourism Development Department through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) will develop a resort at Batang Duri in Temburong District.

This is done through the pioneer project’s request for proposal (RFP) where offers are open for investment, construction, management, coordination and maintenance of an eco-chalet concept resort.

The project aims to provide accommodations, upgrade the existing jetty for boats heading to the Ulu Temburong National Park and attract more tourists to the district.

Another project in Temburong District is a two-hectare resort at Kampong Pedayan which include 30 luxurious camps, fine-dining restaurants and swimming pool.
