BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Universiti Teknolologi Brunei (UTB) are collaborating in the field of education and industrial engagement to create opportunities for future generations following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both organisations yesterday.
Held at the BIBD Headquarters in the heart of the capital, Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, BIBD Deputy Managing Director and Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB witnessed the signing with senior officials from the bank and university.
Signing on behalf of BIBD was its Acting Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah, while on behalf of UTB was its Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Mohd Salleh.
The collaboration includes projects and programmes initiated by both organisations, including education awards, collaborative scholarships, industrial talks, seminars and short courses, research programmes, educational and industrial training, industrial internships and other areas of cooperation. The collaboration also include Masters by Coursework scholarship extended by UTB for BIBD staff in the field of computing and business, scholarship at PhD level for UTB staff on scope and field of research, and ALAF Bursary scholarship – a scholarship programme offered for underprivileged students.
For industrial talks, seminar, workshop and short courses, BIBD will be invited to deliver industrial talks or on organised seminars as well as workshop with UTB on related topics, and UTB will provide short courses tailored for BIBD on related topics.
Commenting on the signing, the BIBD Deputy Managing Director highlighted “Alhamdulillah, with the signing of this MoU, we move forward in realising His Majesty’s Vision 2035 of facilitating the development of educated and highly skilled citizens in Brunei Darussalam.
In line with our ‘Bruneian at Heart’ spirit, our partnerships with progressive local institution such as UTB, Insya Allah, our public private partnership will benefit all parties involved which will ultimately create more opportunities for future generations.”
Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah, meanwhile added, “The UTB-BIBD collaboration does not only present a great opporunity for our students but also fulfil one of our strategic objectives. “In addition, it aligns with His Majesty’s titah during the UTB Convocation on the need to establish strategic partnership with stakeholders.”
The Mou is part of an established relationship between BIBD and UTB.
