OVER 100 volunteers yesterday afternoon braced the hot sun to plant 1,100 saplings in the End Polio Tree Planting event organised by the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (RCBSB) in Berakas Forest Reserve.
This was the second time that the RCBSB organised the tree planting event following the success last year.
The volunteers also came from the Rotary Club of Jurong Town of Singapore, RC Miri Oil Town, Rotary Club Belait, Rotary Club Makati McKinley and RC Kuching Central.
The tree planting event was held to raise awareness on polio diseases, to raise awareness on environmental issues and to encourage family bonding.
Jeff Yong, Rotary District Governor Nominee, expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for taking part in the event which also aimed to help preserve the forests.
He also thanked the Forestry Department for the support in making the event a success.
Also present at the event are Lam Soong Meng, the President of the RCBSB.
