POLITEKNIK Brunei concluded its 2nd International Symposium on Innovative Teaching and Learning yesterday at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
A total of 189 participants, comprising those from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Students Affairs Division of the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and representatives from primary and secondary schools, attended the two-day symposium that included lecturers from Politeknik Brunei and PAPRSB IHS, UBD.
Present as guest of honour was Denis Ho Mun Tai, Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei. Also present were Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar, Acting Assistant Director of Politeknik Brunei; heads of departments and schools as well as officers and lecturers of Politeknik Brunei.
In her closing remarks, Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Head of the Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL), reflected the importance of students expanding their knowledge in the usage of innovative tools and technology as well as preparing for the constantly changing technology.
“Becoming IT savvy is important as it can be utilised as a coping mechanism for educators to be equipped,” she said. “We need to be prepared for the changes that are taking place in today’s fast paced digital world.”
The event then continued with the presentation of certificates and souvenirs to the guest keynote speaker, Professor Grainne Conole, Professor of Education and Innovation and consultant from the United Kingdom, as well as to sponsors, external participants and Politeknik Brunei participants attending the seminar.
