THE Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam together with the Brunei Darussalam National Judo Federation will host a Judo Seminar at the Indoor Stadium on April 15 from 3.45pm to 6pm.
Judo is a Japanese martial art founded by Kano Jigoro in May 1882. He created judo as a method for physical, intellectual and moral education, and his immense contribution is recognised in the statutes of the International Judo Federation, which now includes representatives and practitioners from 196 countries.
As the oldest independent judo organisation in the world, the Kodokan Judo Institute continues to develop the sport of judo by providing education and training for new and existing practitioners all over the world. The Judo Seminar will be led by Haruki Uemura, President of the Kodokan Judo Institute and Gold Medallist at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, to commemorate the establishment of the Brunei Darussalam National Judo Federation.
The public will be given the chance to experience some of the fundamental movements and techniques of judo.
Admission is free. Those who would like to participate in the activities are recommended to come early, in a sports attire, to reserve a place.
The Brunei Darussalam National Judo Federation was established in March this year and will hold its official launching ceremony prior to the Judo Seminar.
