INSURANS Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd (IITH) was yesterday invited for the second time by the Department of Schools to Dato Ratna Haji Jaafar Primary School in Kampong Kiarong to spread awareness on the importance of Financial Literacy to 70 students of the school.

Present during the event was the Headmistress of the school, Cikgu Jusita binti Abdul Rahman.

The event saw a role-playing activity which allowed children to rehearse various aspects of financial literacy and Takaful insurance.

With a theme ‘Let’s Play Shop!’, the activity allowed children to choose the item they want, calculate the cost of buying it and how much effort it would take for them to save up to afford it, while exercising their financial literacy.

Moreover, the students randomly put in an ‘unexpected situation’ to let them experience how Takaful insurance can help them.

The aim was to develop the children’s awareness on how money is earned and used, how saving can help them reach their goals, and how Takaful insurances can help them out of unexpected situations.

IITH prepared financial planning games and activities to highlight expenditure differences between needs and wants as well as wise financial management, while at the same time underlining the importance of budgeting.

The Manager for Business Development and Marketing of the IITH, Haji Abdul Majid bin Haji Hidup said that IITH was committed to raise awareness on better financial management among students as early as possible.

Regardless of age or financial situation, said Haji Abdul Majid, there are important and useful lessons to learn about savings, investing and using credit and the activities will encourage students to reflect on how they can establish and maintain healthy financial habits.

IITH’s participation at the event was also part of its CSR activity and efforts to elevate financial literacy in Brunei Darussalam.
