Bruneians excel in Toastmasters international events

AREA K6, Division K of District 87 of Toastmasters International kicked off the International Speech and Table Topics Contests in three separate club events earlier in March.

The Brunei Speakers’ Club (BSC), Brunei Advanced Speakers Club (BASC), OTTERS TMC and UBD Toastmasters Club (UBD TMC) represented the chartered clubs for Brunei Toastmasters at the contests.

Winners from the three club contests and the speech competition participated in the Area K6 Contest on March 25. For the International Speech segment, contestants did their best to deliver a five-to seven-minute inspirational speech. Hayati binti Kamis emerged victorious to do OTTERS TMC proud, followed by Heidi Sia Rahman of BSC and Rano Iskandar of BASC, who won second and third place.

In the national Table Topics segment, contestants showcased their impromptu speaking skills. BSC members Wong Hui Ting and Hazwan Kamarulzaman occupied first and second place. BASC member Rano Iskandar came third.

The two Brunei national first place winners, Wong Hui Ting and Hayati, entered the next round of competition to compete against winners of the Labuan and Sabah areas in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on April 8.

In the Division K International Speech Contest, Hayati came in third place. As for the Division K Table Topics Contest, Wong Hui Ting won first place once again. As the emerging victor of the Brunei, Labuan and Sabah Division, Wong Hui Ting will represent Division K and proceed to the final round at the 2018 Annual District 87 Toastmasters International Conference in Kuching, Sarawak on April 27-29.
