HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) yesterday morning stressed the importance of team unity and teamwork for the Lawn Bowl team to become a better team that can produce better result.
His Royal Highness was at the post mortem meeting for the XXI Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast, Australia at the conference room of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, said, “His Royal Highness’ presence at the meeting reflects the constant concerns on all the efforts taken for the progress of sports in the country.”
The minister thanked the executive members of the National Selection and Evaluation Committee who attended the meeting and contributed ideas and suggestions toward increasing the efforts of achieving excellence in sports in relation to the participation of national athletes in regional and international sports events.
Emphasising the importance of the post mortem meeting, the minister said, “The meeting is held after the Brunei Darussalam team returned from the Commonwealth Games. It will serve as a guideline in a continuous effort to improve the performance and achievement of these national athletes. This is particularly important, with the participation of the team for the upcoming sports events including the 18th Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to be held in 2019 in the Philippines.”
During the meeting, His Royal Highness also heard a report on the Brunei contingent in XXI Commonwealth Games delivered by Major (Rtd) Mohd Talip bin Mohd Tahir who was the Chef de Mission of the contingent.
Faced with very strong competition from participating Commonwealth countries, Brunei Lawn Bowl team did not win any medals in the XXI Commonwealth Games.
