HIS Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan and General of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) witnessed the ‘Mobile Demonstration: Offensive Action on Jungle Fringe’ at the Field Firing Area, Binturan Range, Penanjong Garrison yesterday.
The demonstration was the highlight of the ongoing Regional Jungle Warfare Symposium (RJWS) 2018 which will conclude today.
The RJWS is an annual event organised by the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom to enhance best practices and cooperation in the area of jungle warfare in the Southeast Asia region and beyond.
Specifically, RJWS looks to improve regional and global connectivity in jungle warfare capacity building.
The event, the second since its inception in 2017, is organised by the Training Institute of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (TI RBAF) and the British Forces Brunei (BFB).
Upon arrival at Binturan Firing Range, His Royal Highness was welcomed by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Defence II and Major General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Also in attendance was the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam.
At the Binturan Field Firing Area, His Royal Highness first visited the Battalion Command Post and received a briefing delivered by Major Edd Oldfield, Chief of Staff, BFB, before proceeding for a group photograph session.
His Royal Highness then received a briefing delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Noor Rumaizi bin Pengiran Othman, Chief Instructor of TI RBAF and later witnessed the mobile demonstration.
Following this, His Royal Highness proceeded to receive a pesambah from the event’s co-chairs – TI RBAF and BFB – prior to attending a tea reception.
Before departure, His Royal Highness signed a Royal Parchment and received junjung ziarah from the delegates taking part in the symposium and participants involved in the demonstration, along with the high commissioners and defence advisors of the countries involved.
RJWS 2018 seeks to examine a range of specific security threats and challenges with a particular focus on insurgent, terrorist and illegal activities.
Meanwhile, the mobile live firing demonstration aims to further enhance practical knowledge in countering threats within the jungle as well as its fringes at tactical level which is in line with this year’s theme, ‘Countering Current and Future Threats’.
The live firing demonstration was part of the collaborative effort between the Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Air Force as well as the Second Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles (2RGR).
