AFTER four days of keynote presentations and discussions, the Second Regional Jungle Warfare Symposium (RJWS) 2018 came to an end yesterday with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation at the Medicina Lines, in Seria.

The guest of honour during the closing ceremony was Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud. Also present was Richard Lindsay, the British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.

In his speech, the RBAF Commander thanked the dele-gates from all the countries that were involved in the symposium, while noting that the responses and feedback had been mainly positive.

“I hope that the symposium has broadened understanding and strengthened bonds among the participating countries, by providing greater levels of interaction outside of the usual working environment,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude towards His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan and General of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, who attended the ‘Mobile Demonstration: Offensive Action on the Jungle Fringe’ on April 19, at the Binturan Range of the Penanjong Garrison, which was the main highlight of the RJWS 2018.

Throughout the symposium, delegates from participating countries discussed security threats and the best practices in terms of information gathering to support further regional capacity-building and capability development for operational activities in the jungle environment.

In upholding Brunei Darussalam as a Centre of Excellence for Jungle Warfare, the RJWS will continue to motivate exchanges of information and professional practices among different military training institutions, which will enhance cooperative efforts, as well as opportunities for future initiatives and collaborations.

The participating countries, which increased to 14 from 11 last year, were Australia, Brazil, Brunei, France, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
