A GROUP of twenty students and two teachers, from Temasek Secondary School (TMS) in Singapore, paid a visit to the Brunei Press Sdn Bhd offices in Beribi, yesterday.
The visitors were given a briefing by Reggie See, General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, on the history of the Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata, the two newspapers which are published by the company.
Among the discussed topics were the editorial workflow and the process of newspaper production, with editorial staff members on hand to answer questions related to their fields.
The visitors were also given a tour of the Borneo Bulletin archives and the printing press machinery.
Leading the delegation was Sahriana Rani, the Subject Head of Pupil Well-Being at Temasek Secondary School, who told the Bulletin, “We have heard about the Brunei Press, and our Singaporean students have been here before. We realise that it can benefit our students.

“I have a lot of Higher Malay students here, and this visit will inspire them to become writers and how to write things from different angles and perspectives.”
One of the students, Nurin Shahirah binti Abdul Latif, said, “When I first stepped into the building I was really amazed, because I’ve always wondered how newspapers are made.
“In Singapore I don’t think we’d have an opportunity like this to see how it works. So it really amazed me, and the video presentation really taught me about how this works. Not only that, I also learned about Brunei’s history.”
Another student, Nur Sabrina binti Mohamad Fauzi, said, “I’ve learned more about what journalists do and how they get their stories. Now I know more about what it’s like to be a journalist, and that we should look to the newspapers for authentic news reports, rather than the social media.”
She added that she intends to read more newspapers.
The group arrived in Brunei on Tuesday, and will be in the country for a total of five days.
