THE Mabohai Shopping Complex hosted a ‘La Francophonie’ celebration during the weekend, which featured a lively host of activities such as learning French through interactive games, an arts and crafts workshop, and a colouring session for children.
Jointly organised by Alliance Francaise de Brunei Darussalam (AFBD), the Embassy of France in Brunei Darussalam and the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), with the support of the High Commission of Canada in Brunei Darussalam, the event was attended by members of the Board of Directors from AFBD, led by its President, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah.
Also in attendance were Christian Ramage, the French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam; and Caterina Ventura, the Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
The colourful occasion also included an exhibition on French and Quebecois inventors, a quiz on French football, a short film presentation and a poetry recital, as well as a storytelling session in Malay and French.
“We are very happy that the event attracted both local and expatriate families alike, which was one of our main objectives – a gathering in appreciation of French culture,” said Yee Man Cheng, the Manager of the Mabohai Shopping Complex.
“We would like to congratulate Ayrine Jammes, the French lecturer at UBD, and her students; Alliance Francaise de Brunei Darussalam and Guillaume Graff, the Acting Director; and all those who supported this event.”
