BRUNEI Darussalam is hosting the 31st Language Council of Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia (MABBIM) Expert Session, where representatives of MABBIM member countries will discuss evaluation proposals for the regional language organisation, including the proposal for a regional project ‘Wordnet Bahasa’ (Language Wordnet) before it is brought to the 57th MABBIM Executive Meeting.
MABBIM is a regional language organisation formed to plan and monitor the development of the Malay and Indonesian languages within the region. The organisation is made up of three countries: Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. Currently, countries such as Singapore and Thailand are observers to the organisation.
This year, Brunei Darussalam is the host country for a number of regional MABBIM networks, including the 31st MABBIM Expert Session; the MABBIM Linguistic Seminar 2018; and the 57th MABBIM Executive Meeting. The three regional MABBIM meetings are held consecutively, starting from a two-day 31st MABBIM Expert Session, followed by a two-day MABBIM Linguistic Seminar 2018; and finally, a two-day 57th MABBIM Executive Meeting, as the closing event.
The session was officially opened yesterday at the Parkview Hotel, Jerudong.
The session will also see the exchange of documents, discussion on matters pertaining to the decisions made during previous meetings, and planning research activities, among other matters.
Head representative from the Brunei delegation Hajah Norati binti Bakar, in her opening speech explained that the meet is an annual event, which proved the importance of the expert session in empowering and developing the Malay and Indonesian languages.
During the meeting, the Malaysian delegation was headed by Haji Mohd Johari bin Hasan, and the Indonesian delegation was headed by Azahari Dasman Darnis.
