THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) launched the 4th Ad-Hoc Working Group Meeting on the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI) at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Tanah Jambu yesterday.
The meeting, which concludes today, was held following the successful launch of Phase 1 of the ADI during the closing of the 4th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Clark, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines, on October 24, 2017.
Delegates from ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat discussed progress made from the establishment of the ADI and steps for the next phase since its launch. The ADI initiative is divided into three phases.
Director of Defence Policy at the MinDef and ASEAN Defence Senior Officials Meeting (ADSOM) Working Group Leader for Brunei Darussalam, Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud and Lieutenant-Colonel Zainolhizad bin Haji Mohd Zain of the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) RBAF co-chaired the meeting.
Brunei Darussalam championed the ADI initiative since adopting its Concept Paper under the framework of the ADMM in 2014.
The 4th Ad-Hoc Working Group Meeting on ADI builds on the previous results of Ad-Hoc Working Group Meetings on the Direct Communications Link in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Process held in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
