THE Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof yesterday received a farewell call from Lieutenant General Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim, the former Chief of Defence Force of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Lieutenant General Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim, who was in Brunei Darussalam on a farewell visit from May 2 – 3, also called on First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, the Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Upon arrival at Bolkiah Garrison in the morning, Lieutenant General Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim was accorded a guard of honour by personnel from the RBAF.
The lieutenant general’s visit highlights the long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, which has flourished and strengthened under his leadership and tenure with the SAF.
During the calls, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue maintaining the strong ties between Brunei and Singapore’s military in the areas of training, conducting of courses, professional interactions and exchanges, as well as bilateral and multilateral exercises.
Lieutenant General Dato Paduka Seri Perry Lim officially handed over his post as Chief of Defence Force of the SAF to Major General Melvyn Ong on March 23.
