Johari Ahmad maintains top spot in Baiduri Masters

BY THE end of yesterday’s session, five players from last weekend’s 23rd Baiduri Masters tournament leaderboard were knocked out from the top 16 with the emergence of Haji Shahminan bin Haji Damit, Ahmad Yani bin Haji Md Noor, Menuddin Daud, Lai Suan Long and Aritz Majid.

Maintaining their position at the top are Johari Ahmad, whose gross score of 68 remains unchallenged, and Wadiwadera bin Haji Md Wahid with a gross of 69. Knocking Suhaimi Ibrahim from the top three are newcomers, Haji Shahminan and Ahmad Yani who played an opening round of golf with a gross of 71 and 72.

Suhaimi Ibrahim dropped two places to fifth place with his previous score of 72. Tied with a gross of 73 are Haji Hanafi bin Pehin Haji Ahmad, Pengiran Yura Wira who improved his score by 12 strokes from last Friday’s session, PA Basheer, Ali Haji Rashid, Asmawi bin Ismail and Pengiran Haji Ahmad Zaki.

Newcomers, Menuddin Daud and Lai Suan Long, entered the top 16 with a gross of 74. They are tied with Zaini bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Mohd Zainul Amir Abdullah.

Rounding off the top 16 is the last newcomer, Aritz Majid, with a gross of 75.

The Baiduri Masters 2018 will continue today with a full flight for both sessions of 200. With a full flight, there are still slots available for the final day of play for golfers who are targeting division wins or hole-in-prizes.

The Baiduri Masters 2018 will conclude tomorrow. To make the cut, the top 16 gross players overall by the end of today’s session will get the opportunity to vie for the Green Jacket.

Besides the coveted Baiduri Masters Green Jacket and Challenge Trophy, the golfers also have the chance to score the fantastic hole-in-one prizes comprising two luxury cars and three cash prizes of BND20,000 each.

Other than the BMW 740Li at hole 14, other hole-in-one prizes on offer this year are the Mini Cooper S Countryman for Hole 5 and BND20,000 cash each for Holes 2, 12 and 16.

Additionally, there will be novelty prizes up for grabs for the nearest to the pin throughout the tournament and also longest drive as well as lucky draw prizes.

Proceeds raised during the Baiduri Masters will be donated to local charity organisations.

Those who haven’t registered for the tournament can still do so at the RBA Golf Club, First Floor, VIP Room though only slots for the final day are available. Participants are encouraged to play more than once to improve their chances of winning, and they will enjoy a BND10 discount on the registration fee on their subsequent rounds.

The Baiduri Masters will be played on format System 36 (Stroke Play) and the challenge trophy will be decided on gross. The Baiduri Masters tournament is divided into four divisions – Men’s, Group, Ladies and Junior. The Men’s division will be further divided into Men’s Gross, Men’s Nett and Senior Golfers Nett.
