PRESIDENT of the Republic of Singapore Halimah Yacob and spouse Mohamed bin Abdullah Alhabshee arrived in Brunei yesterday on a four-day State Visit.
Minister of Education as Minister-in-Attendance Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman and spouse; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud and spouse; and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof were present at the Brunei International Airport to welcome the Singapore delegation.
Prior to leaving the Brunei International Airport, the President of the Republic of Singapore proceeded to walk past a static guard of honour mounted by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The Singaporean President is scheduled to meet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam today at Istana Nurul Iman where the two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting and witness the signing of a slew of agreements between the two countries.
Brunei and Singapore are expected to ink the ‘Innovation Functions Co-operation Agree-ment’ and a memorandum of understanding between the Financial Intelligence Unit, Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam and the Suspicious Transaction Reporting Office, Commercial Affairs Department, Singapore Police Force concerning cooperation in the exchange of information related to money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Singaporean leader’s first day of the State Visit will include a visit to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Defence Academy and a state banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman later in the evening.
The Singaporean President will enjoy a morning walk and breakfast at the new iconic park – the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas – on her second day of the visit.
The president is also expected to visit the Singapore Armed For-ces Lakiun Camp in Temburong, a jungle training ground for Singapore Armed Forces.
The Singapore President is also scheduled to visit Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Botanical Research Centre and meet the Singaporean community in Brunei.
