AIR transportation provides a positive impact directly and indirectly towards Brunei Darussalam’s economic growth. With an increase of 2.8 per cent in 2017, the air traffic growth in the Sultanate is mostly due to the development of infrastructure and facilities provided at the Brunei International Airport (BIA).

The growth is also attributed to the increase of connectivity network as well as tourism activities that continues to be broaden from 13 air services agreement to 22 destination networks both with regional and international countries.

Efforts to promote Brunei Darussalam as a tourist destination is further reflected through tourist arrivals that has increased by 18 per cent towards the end of 2017 (258,955 tourist) compared to 218,809 in 2016. The achievement also reflected on the 10 per cent growth target by the Tourism Development Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

In line with this, a launching of a big screen was held at the BIA yesterday as part of continuous efforts by the Department of Civil Aviation and the BIA to provide more and better services and facilities for the public and passengers.

The installation of the 7.86m x 4.48m LED big screen will further provide more digital informative messages and hoped to share more creative and innovative information. The screen will also serve as a platform to disseminate more information on attractive places as well as national events taking place throughout the year.

Launching the big screen at the airport was Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong and Minister of Communications Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof.

Also present was Legislative Council member YB Haji Abdul Hamid @ Sabli bin Haji Arshad in his capacity as the President of the Brunei Association of Travel Agent (BATA).

The installation of the big screen will further facilitate the tourism sector to increase the number of passengers using the airport. Flight information, services, facilities provided at the airport as well as general information will also be displayed on the big screen.

The big screen installation demonstrates efforts by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) in ‘Going Digital’ and showcasing the department’s initiatives to complement the existing facilities such as the Tourism Information Centre.

The big screen will channel additional information including public awareness on road safety initiatives and advertisements.

The improvement of infrastructure facilities through the big screen, in line with the DCA’s initiatives towards ‘Going Further’, is expected to make the BIA more conducive to tourists as well as the public not only as a family leisure destination but with the infrastructure providing various aviation and social services.

The BIA will always work closely with the MPRT as well as other agencies in attracting more tourists to the country through increased facilities, services and travel promotion.
