HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office stressed on the importance of keeping the environment clean and free of litter, while delivering a sabda yesterday at the second meeting of the National Executive Committee for the 72nd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

“This is in agreement with His Majesty’s titah during the opening ceremony of the Legislative Council session on March 5, 2018, where His Majesty drew serious attention to the issue of cleanliness, particularly in upholding and implementing legislation to keep our country free from pollution and litter,” said His Royal Highness.

“We do not want anyone to undermine this legislation. Having it on its own is not enough, and this legislation must be upheld through implementation. I am confident that we can learn to improve and be innovative for this year’s events. This includes tackling all relevant issues, particularly those on cleanliness.”

His Royal Highness then described July 15 as a special occasion for Brunei citizens and residents, allowing them to manifest their sincere gratitude and undivided loyalty towards His Majesty.

“The celebration is also a symbol of unity among our people which has for so long ensured peace, progress and prosperity under His Majesty’s wise and compassionate leadership,” said His Royal Highness.

“Therefore, this opportunity to express our gratitude should be highlighted through the events to be held in conjunction with these significant celebrations.

“It is here that all responsible parties should be prudent in the planning and the scheduling of these ceremonies and events, which could potentially broaden opportunities for the active involvement of the community at large. This includes government agencies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as students, youths and citizens in general.”

His Royal Highness also added the hope of seeing more solidarity and harmony amid His Majesty’s 72nd birthday celebrations.

“The unity of our people should not be taken for granted. After all, it was far from an easy task to establish and uphold our national identity, especially in accomplishing Brunei Vision 2035,” said His Royal Highness.

“The role of youths also plays an important part. I believe that this opportunity should be embraced by our youths to nurture the spirit of volunteerism by contributing their time, energy and ideas for our sovereign, religion, nation and country.

“It is also hoped that these celebrations will serve as a platform to foster national harmony, in highlighting the close relationship between the monarch and the people. At the same time, it instils the spirit of identity, enabling us to always pledge our undivided loyalty and devotion towards His Majesty and our beloved country.”
