BRUNEI Dragon Boat Team ‘A’ produced a fine showing in the 5th Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race after clinching third place in the grand finale of the event – the Sabah Head of State Trophy – at the scenic Likas Bay in Kota Kinabalu recently.
Brunei Dragon Boat Team ‘A’ recorded a time of 3:58.71 behind eventual winners China Guangdong and reigning holders Sayang Lawas who finished with 3:55.10 and 3:57.91, respectively.
With a number of international and top Malaysian men’s teams all vying for the top honours, Brunei was well represented with the Lela Cheteria Team, Mukim Saba Boat Race Team and Juragan Brunei Darussalam all in the frame in the Sabah Head of State Trophy.
Brunei Dragon Boat Race Team ‘A’ also enjoyed a podium finish in third place in the Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy category after finishing with a time of 4:04.09.
Lela Cheteria Team, one of the most improved teams in the national scene, sealed a runners-up place in the Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy after recording a time of 4:00.61 with China Guangdong declared as the winner with a time of 4:00.31.
The Ying Ao Shunde Xingtan squad dominated the meet winning in all four categories they contested including the coveted Sabah Head of State Trophy.
China Guangdong, winners of the main event in 2016, also took the Men and Mix Team Open races.
Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Shafie bin Haji Apdal, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Sabah, presented the prizes.
Organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), the boat race competition has grown over the years as one of the main sporting events in Sabah.
